Ulverston has an indoor market hall located on New Market Street which is open from 9am – 5pm on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The outdoor street market is held on Thursdays and Saturdays along Market Street.
The markets are managed by Westmorland and Furness Council who also manage the Coronation Hall. For more information and to request a stall, please email: allan.morrison@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk
A volunteer committee organise the annual Dickensian Festival which includes a very large Christmas Market.

Ulverston Market Charted was granted by King Edward 1 at Carlisle in 1280. It gave Roger of Lancaster the power to raise additional revenues from a Thursday Market and a Fair.
A translation of the original charter can be found below:
Edward by the grace of God, King of England, Lord of Ireland , and Duke of Aquitaine to Archbishops, Bishops, Abbots, Prior , Earls and Barons, Justices, Sheriffs, Officials and all his Bailiffs and faithful men greetings.
Know that we have granted and by this our charter have confirmed to our beloved and faithful Roger of Lancaster that he and he heirs for ever shall have a market at his manor of Ulverston in Furness, in the County of Lancaster on Thursday of each week and also every year a fair lasting three days, that is to say, on the Vigil, the day and the morrow of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary (7,8,9 September) unless this market and fair are to the damage of neighbouring markets and fairs. Wherefore we will and firmly command for us and our heirs that the aforesaid Roger and his heirs for every shall have the aforesaid market and fair at his manor with all the liberties and free customs appertaining to the same market and fair unless this market and fair are to the damage of neighbouring markers and fairs as aforesaid.
These worthy fathers being witness: Robert Bishop of Bath and Wells and Williams Bishop of Norwich, Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln, John de Vescy, Robert Tyblotot, Hugh son of Otto, Robert son of John and others.
Given our hand at Carlisle the eleventh day of September in the eighth year of our reign.
