Christmas Lights and Town Dressing

The council spends a minimum of £20,000 per annum on the towns Christmas Lights. This is the cost of putting them up and down and maintaining them. Last year the council spent an additional 5,000 on extending the lights and was supported in this by donations from some shopkeepers and the Ulverston Traders Association. The council also puts up the bunting which stays up from Carnival Day in July to the end of Charter Festival.

The Ulverston Traders Association pay for all the costs associated with putting the Christmas tree up at the Market Cross, and also arrange for the nativity scene to be on display.

In 2016 the town council work with the BID (Business Improvement district) to replace all of the infrastructure for the lights together with the lights themselves. It was agreed that all of the lights would be white icicle, with white lights on the tree and two large cross pieces at either end of New Market Street. The general view of the community was that it looked extremely attractive.
