The council is responsible for the maintenance of public green space in Ulverston at Gill Banks and Little Hoad. Gill Banks is the start of the Cumbria Way walk to Carlisle.
Gill Banks can be accessed from from the Gill in the centre of the town through the wood to fields leading on to Old Hall Road. Little Hoad is the green space below Hoad and can be accessed from Chittery Lane
A volunteer group has been formed called the Gill Banks Action Group to support the work of the council in keeping Gill Banks maintained through pruning and planting and letting the town council know when any works need to be attended to. Recently the council has installed new fencing and repaired the pavement on the top path
