The Town Council manage the Gill public conveniences. There is a car park operated by Westmorland and Furness Council adjacent to the toilet block.
The postcode is LA12 7BN . The refurbished conveniences have three toilet units with a swipe payment facility on all three, together with a coin system on the accessible convenience. The accessible convenience also has a radar key entrance along with baby change facility. The cost is 40p per use.
The toilets cost circa £10,000 per year to clean, maintain, repair and insure, together with water and electricity bills, plus rates. Local conveniences are currently not exempt from business rates. The cost is high which is why the Council has to make a charge to ensure that it remain open.
There are also public toilets in the Indoor Market Hall (Operated by Westmorland and Furness Council). The indoor market hall is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9am – 5pm.
The Gill is the start of the Cumbria Way – a long distance walk from Ulverston to Carlisle. The Cumbria Waymarker on the Gill marks the start of the walk.
