The council-run Charter Fun Day took place on Saturday 7^th September – an annual event to celebrate Ulverston being granted its Market Charter by King Edward 1^st in 1280.

Town Crier, Peter Winston began the event with the ringing of the town bell and reading of the charter at 10.30am before the full day of events, entertainment and activities began.

Families were able to enjoy this free event with live music at the Market Cross from Ulverston Town Band, Char and Boom Dang.

Magic shows, model-train rides, games, henna, balloon modelling, walkabout characters, the human fruit machine, giant chess boards, fire engines, the Inshore hovercraft, local organisations

providing all kinds of family friendly activities were all on offer for families to enjoy.

The ever-popular Family Dog Show saw around 70 entries for categories: Handsomest Dog; Prettiest Dog; Waggiest Tail; Best Collar / Bandana; Best Trick and The Dog the Judges Would Like to Take Home. Ralph Spours compered the show, while Mayor Graham Scrogham had the difficult task of choosing a winner from the many deserving entrants.

Allotment awards were presented to allotment holders for the best and improved plots by Councillor Margaret Hornby.
