Welcome to Ulverston Town Council’s Education resource for Key Stages one and two.

The six panels shown below provide information on:

School visits to the monument are most welcome. Hoad Hill is accessible by four-wheel drive vehicle by arrangement. There are steep steps up to the monument. Inside are two main rooms or chambers, the entrance chamber includes a bust of Sir John Barrow, together with other plaques, mouldings, seating and inscriptions together with a screen showing the web cam views from the top of the monument.

The second chamber accessed by a short spiral staircase contains an exhibition of the panels shown below. Access to the top of the monument is from this chamber. By looking up children will be able to see the staircase winding to the top, together with some of the passing platforms and the ‘pepperpot’ at the top of the building. Some children may want to climb to the top in small groups and with parental permission.
