Westmorland and Furness Local Plan Consultation
Westmorland and Furness Council is preparing its first Local Plan. The planning activity looks ahead 20 years from now, and considers how many new homes and workplaces our area needs, whilst also protecting our local and historic character, special landscapes, green spaces and environment.
The Local Plan will:
• set out how much new development (e.g. homes and employment sites) is needed to support our communities
• make sure new development is built in the right places and in a way which is best for people and the environment
• allocate sites for new housing and other development
• protect some areas and green spaces from development
• include policies that are used to decide planning applications
• plan for development relating to minerals and waste
Community conversations will be happening at drop-in sessions, when people can talk to council officers to find out more about the process and contribute. A session has already taken place at The Coro in Ulverston on 11th July. Forthcoming sessions in the Ulverston area include the Buccleuch Hall Lindal on 19th July, Askam & Ireleth Community Centre on 24th July, and Dalton Drill Hall on 1st August.
