ULVERSTON REMEMBRANCE SERVICES 2025
Sunday 9th November
Members of the public are cordially invited to join the Remembrance Sunday event on Sunday 9th November.
The same as last year, the Remembrance Service at Ulverston Parish Church will start at 2.30pm.
After the Church Service at approximately 3.30pm, the parade will form up outside Ulverston Parish Church to parade along Church Walk and King Street to Market Place for the laying of wreaths at approximately 3.40pm. The parade will be led by the Parade Marshal and Ulverston Town Band.
All very welcome to attend both the service and parade.
Ulverston Town Council is responsible for the parade and a full road closure will be in place.
After the laying of wreaths, the Town Band and the uniform section of the parade will then make their way back to the Royal British Legion Club in Brogden Street.

Tuesday 11th November
There will be a short act of Remembrance at the War Memorial from 10.50am – 11.00am led by the Royal British Legion. All very welcome to attend.
At the October meeting of Ulverston Town Council, the Mayor of Ulverston, Councillor Shirley-Anne Wilson presented Mr Richard Butler MBE with the Freedom of the Town.
The decision to grant this accolade was unanimous by Town Councillors, for Mr Butlers unwavering commitment to the UVHS band and providing opportunities for students, as well as organising many years of fantastic performances with the UVHS and Royal Marines Bands in the Town.

We’re delighted to announce that Carols at The Coro will return to Ulverston this year on Saturday 13th December 2025.
Held in the beautiful surroundings of The Coronation Hall, this annual event will feature classic carols and family favourites performed by Ulverston Town Band, Church Walk School Choir and Furness Bach Choir.
Whether you’re a seasoned carol-singer or just love the magic of live festive music, this free event is sure to put you in the festive mood.
Refreshments, including mulled wine and mince pies, will be available at the bar.
There will also be a raffle with all proceeds going to the Mayor’s chosen charities.
Book tickets directly via the Coronation Hall, from Saturday 8th November.
Charter Family Fun Day Celebrations 2025
Ulverston’s Charter Family Fun Day took place on Saturday 6th September in the town centre to celebrate the granting of Ulverston’s Market Charter by King Edward I in 1280.
The event opened at 10.30am with Town Crier, Peter Winston, ringing the bell and reading the historic charter. Families then enjoyed a fully day of free entertainment, including live music, performances, market stalls, face painting, balloon modelling, magic, fire engines, Inshore Rescue boats, walkabout characters, train rides and more.
The ever-popular Family Dog show, sponsored by South Lakes Raw Feeds, drew in over 50 entries across six categories: Best Trick, Best Dressed on Six Legs, Best Younger Dog, Best Older Dog, Waggiest Tail and Overall Winner. Ralph Spours compered the competition, while Mayor Shirley-Anne Wilson had the difficult task of judging the winners.
Awards were also presented to allotment holders, recognising the best and most improved plots. Awards were handed out by Councillor Helen Irving, Chair of the Allotment Committee. 
Ulverston Town Concil would like to thank all volunteers, community groups and local businesses whose support helped make the day possible.
Charter Festival returns for another year on Saturday 6th September
Come along to Market Street and New Market Street, lots of free fun for all the family!
Stalls, games, live music, free magic shows, model railway rides, free face painting, geli-plate printing.
We also have the brilliant human fruit machine, children’s character walk-arounds, balloon modelling and lots more!
Plus just for fun family dog show at 2pm, Market Cross with prizes for all dogs and owners – just enter on the day!

The VJ Day 80 commemorative service at the War Memorial led by the Ulverston Royal British Legion was well attended on Friday 15th August.
The Deputy Lieutenant, Mrs Julie Barton, the Mayor of Ulverston, Cllrs Shirley-Anne Wilson, along with the Royal British Legion, the Police and Fire Service all laid wreaths.
Friday evening saw the Commemorative Beacon being lit on Hoad Hill. The Town Crier read the VJ Day Proclamation from the Sir John Barrow Monument, the Last Post was sounded by two members of Ulverston Town Band and a two minute silence was held. The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Paul Smith then lit the beacon at 9.15pm which burned brightly across the town until 10pm.
The event was also attended by Cllr and MP Michelle Scrogham, Cllr Graham Scrogham and many members of the public who were treated to stunning views as the sun set.
The Sir John Barrow Monument was lit in red, white and blue for the evening.
We were honoured to have the Mayor of Ulverston, Councillor Shirley-Anne Wilson, officially unveil the new signage along the Outcast Rope Walk in a special ceremony on Wednesday 23rd July.
The new signage has been updated to explain the rope-making process that once took place along this historic path, with images included to help visitors visualise how the process of rope making was carried out.
In her speech during the ceremony, the Mayor reminded us of the rich heritage behind this peaceful path, once used by rope makers, and now enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
Ulverston Town Council has relaunched their Environmental Sustainability Grant Fund to support local efforts in making Ulverston greener and more sustainable.
We welcome applications from groups, schools, charities and non-profit organisations within the Ulverston area, to apply for up to £250. The grant can either pay for the project in its entirety or can be used towards a larger project.

CIVIC SUNDAY 2025
Thank you to everyone who attended Civic Sunday yesterday for the new Ulverston Mayor, Cllr Shirley-Anne Wilson. There was a special service in the Parish Church followed by a parade through town to the Coro, where afternoon tea was served accompanied by the fantastic Ulverston Town Band.
